I am very excited to share this post featuring North Carolina bookstores. This past week I was lucky to be able to take off from work while visiting Aaron’s family in Raleigh, NC. Since I had some time I decided to explore various Independent Bookstores in the area. This post includes all the bookstores I visited, some pictures and my thoughts about each.
Today is Small Business Saturday so I’m hoping you find some small business to support this holiday season. These are all amazing places to shop if you live in the area or online if you are looking to support an independent bookstore from afar.
Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh, NC
I have visited this bookstore many times and every time I’m in town I make sure to stop by. They have a huge collection of books. It has a big bookstore feel while still being an independent bookstore. They have a huge selection of books and gifts and they often do author events. This bookstore is next to a mall so it’s convenient to go shop either before or after browsing for books.
What I got – At this bookstore I purchased People Love Dead Jews by Dara Horn. This book was recommended earlier this month (I forget by whom) and I was glad to see it here so I had to get it.
Epilogue Books in Chapel Hill, NC
This is my dream bookstore and my favorite of all the bookstores I visited this week. The vibe, the decor, the books they have available and the coffee are all perfect. To explain how much I loved this place, I browsed and had coffee for about an hour then left to go to another bookstore and came back. I grabbed a table and read for about two hours while drinking some hot chocolate. One of the things I loved the most about this bookstore was the coffee shop and the extensive seating area. I will be making sure to visit this bookstore again any time I’m in the area.
What I got – At this bookstore I got Ghosts by Dolly Alderton. I keep seeing amazing reviews of this one and the cover is gorgeous.
Flyleaf Books in Chapel Hill, NC
Another great bookstore in Chapel Hill. This bookstore is bigger in size than Epilogue and had a huge selection of books. The store also has a separate room with used books which I really liked. They also have a pretty big children’s books area so it is a great store to bring kids to.
What I got – At this bookstore I got a book that came out the day I visited. I purchased These Precious Days by Ann Patchett, I even got a signed one!
McIntyre’s Books in Pittsboro, NC
This bookstore is in a really cute town. This was the last bookstore I visited this week and it was a great one to wrap up my bookstore tour with. I loved how this bookstore was set up with different rooms for different genres, it has a great selection of books. It was a little overwhelming and I didn’t know what to get but in a good way. I probably could have spent hours here browsing. They also have a lot of great gifts like puzzles and bookish items.
What I got – The last book I got was What Could be Saved by Liese O’Halloran Schwarz (A Chapel Hill author!). I loved this cover and when I saw it was a local NC author I knew I had to get it.
I had so much fun visiting all these North Carolina bookstores this week and I hope you find some new stores to shop at this holiday season and all year long.
Amazing post! What a perfect way to spend Thanksgiving week! I visited the cutest indie book store/coffee shop in CA this week too!
