Review: Feels Like Falling

Today I’m sharing my review of Feels like falling by Kristy Woodson Harvey. This is a great summer book, add it to your beach/pool bag!

Synopsis

It’s summertime on the North Carolina coast and the livin’ is easy. Unless, that is, you’ve just lost your mother to cancer, your sister to her extremist husband, and your husband to his executive assistant. Meet Gray Howard. Right when Gray could use a serious infusion of good karma in her life, she inadvertently gets a stranger, Diana Harrington, fired from her job at the local pharmacy. Diana Harrington’s summer isn’t off to the greatest start either: Hours before losing her job, she broke up with her boyfriend and moved out of their shared house with only a worn-out Impala for a bed. Lucky for her, Gray has an empty guest house and a very guilty conscience. With Gray’s kindness, Diana’s tide begins to turn. But when her first love returns, every secret from her past seems to resurface all at once. And, as Gray begins to blaze a new trail, she discovers, with Diana’s help, that what she envisioned as her perfect life may not be what she wants at all

Why did I choose to read this book

I attended a Bad on paper podcast event where Kristy Woodson Harvey was a guest panelist and I became a fan of hers before reading any of her books. Kristy and I messaged on Instagram, I told her how much I enjoyed the podcast event and she was so nice that offered to send me a copy of her new book. I love supporting authors that engage with their readers!

Rating

4 Stars (An Excellent book!)

My Thoughts

This is a lighter read that touches on some deeper themes with grace. I don’t tend to read much southern fiction but this book is making me read more of it, specially in the summer. Some of the topics covered include family, friendship, forgiveness and second chance at love. I think I liked it a lot because I read this at the right time, I needed something lighter and heartfelt. Don’t you love when that happens?

I listened to the audiobook and I really enjoyed the narration. The narrator does a great job with the southern accents. The book is written in two POVs, Gray and Diana, who are very different and form an unlikely friendship. Their friendship is the heart of the story and I loved it! This book definitely transported me to the North Carolina coast.

This was my first Kristy Woodson Harvey book and it did not disappoint. I will definitely be reading more from her, specially her Peachtree Bluff series which I have on my shelves waiting for me to pick them up. The Peachtree Bluff series is part of my Summer reading guide.

Content Warnings

Death of a parent, cancer, child neglect/abandonment, infidelity, divorce, homelessness
