Review: It Ends with Us

It ends with us

Today I’m sharing my review of It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover. This may be one of my favorite books I’ve read this year!

Synopsis

Sometimes it is the one who loves you who hurts you the most.

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up
— she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan — her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

My Thoughts

This book was amazing, one of my favorite books I’ve read this year. This is the first Colleen Hoover book that I’ve read and I know it won’t be my last. I know so many people love her books and I can tell why. This book is partly based on her mom’s story (it’s still a work of fiction) which I didn’t know about until I finished the book and read the author’s note at the end (don’t skip that part!).

The only thing I knew about the book before I read it was that I needed to have some tissues handy. Let me tell you people were right, I was sobbing when I finished this book. I am hesitant to say much about the story because I think its best to read it not knowing much about it. Please read the content warnings before deciding to read this book, it covers some heavy topics but in my opinion they were well executed. I thought the story telling was great and I was so invested in the characters. This is a story that will stay with me for a long time.

Content Warnings

Domestic abuse, physical abuse, rape, toxic relationship, suicidal thoughts, sexual content, child death, infertility
