Review: The Guest List

Today I have another thriller recommendation for you! I was in the mood for a good mystery/thriller so I picked up my Book of the month pick for April, The Guest List by Lucy Foley. I finally read a Book of the month pick the month I picked it!

Synopsis

On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine, or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

But perfection is for plans, and people are all too human. As the champagne is popped and the festivities begin, resentments and petty jealousies begin to mingle with the reminiscences and well wishes. The groomsmen begin the drinking game from their school days. The bridesmaid not-so-accidentally ruins her dress. The bride’s oldest (male) friend gives an uncomfortably caring toast.

And then someone turns up dead. Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? And perhaps more important, why?

Rating

4 Stars (An Excellent book!)

My Thoughts

I picked this one up because the synopsis sounded amazing (what can go wrong at a wedding in a remote island?) and I had seen a lot of people that have similar taste as me like it. I’m happy to report that it didn’t disappoint!

The story starts a little slow, you get to know the characters (it has various points of view) and they all have something from their past that you can’t quite figure out. You find out early on that someone died but you don’t know who did it. Once it picked up I couldn’t put it down! It has multiple shocking moments and I didn’t see the ending coming (that’s key for me for it to be a good thriller).

One of my favorite things about this book was the atmosphere the author created. Set on a remote island off the coast of Ireland. Its creepy but not too creepy and its so well written that you really feel like you are in the island at this wedding.

This book has all the elements you want in a great thriller: suspenseful, multiple jaw dropping moments and a shocking ending. I definitely recommend this book to those that enjoy thrillers!
