Review: The Happy Ever After Playlist

Happy Publication day to this amazing book! I have been looking forward to the publication of The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez since I read The Friend Zone (her first book) last year. The Friend Zone is one of my favorite romances, its funny but also made me cry so much!

Synopsis

Two years after losing her fiancé, Sloan Monroe still can’t seem to get her life back on track. But one trouble-making pup with a “take me home” look in his eyes is about to change everything. With her new pet by her side, Sloan finally starts to feel more like herself. Then, after weeks of unanswered texts, Tucker’s owner reaches out. He’s a musician on tour in Australia. And bottom line: He wants Tucker back.

Well, Sloan’s not about to give up her dog without a fight. But what if this Jason guy really loves Tucker? As their flirty texts turn into long calls, Sloan can’t deny a connection. Jason is hot and nice and funny. There’s no telling what could happen when they meet in person. The question is: With his music career on the rise, how long will Jason really stick around? And is it possible for Sloan to survive another heartbreak?

My Thoughts

I am always nervous about sequels or even reading the follow up from an author I loved because I have high expectations. I can say that this book lived up to my expectations, I LOVED it! Fun fact: Abby Jimenez wrote this book first and then wrote The Friend Zone. The Friend Zone got published first because the publisher wanted to tell that story first in order for the reader to understand Sloan’s story in The Happy Ever After Playlist. This book can be read as a stand alone but I really recommend reading The Friend Zone first (The Happy Ever After Playlist would spoil the ending of The Friend Zone for you). You get Sloan’s backstory and understand her better if you read that one first.

What I loved the most about this book is that it is funny without being cheesy, the banter between the characters, and the depth of the characters. I love books with multiple points of view and short chapters and this book had both. What is very unique about this book is that each chapter begins with a song, which sets the tone for the chapter. I found myself wanting to listen to each song at the beginning of each chapter. There is a Spotify playlist that has all the songs and I listen to it all the time.

There is a dog in this book that will steal your heart! That’s all you need to know for me to convince you to read it right? I love how Abby incorporates the dogs into her books.

I was lucky to receive an Advance Review Copy of this book and I read it back in December. Then earlier this month I received the audiobook and I listened to it because I wanted to read it again. I can say that I recommend both formats! If you are into audiobooks, the audiobook narration is amazing. There are two narrators, a woman and a man, for each point of view.

Who I recommend this book to

I recommend this to someone that likes romance with depth. If you liked The Friend Zone, The Simple Wild or The Flatshare you’ll love this one!
