Review: Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow

Today I’m sharing my review of Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. This is another one of my favorite books I’ve read this year! Also, today is National dog day so obviously Dante had to be on the picture.

Synopsis

On a bitter-cold day, in the December of his junior year at Harvard, Sam Masur exits a subway car and sees, amid the hordes of people waiting on the platform, Sadie Green. He calls her name. For a moment, she pretends she hasn’t heard him, but then, she turns, and a game begins: a legendary collaboration that will launch them to stardom. These friends, intimates since childhood, borrow money, beg favors, and, before even graduating college, they have created their first blockbuster, Ichigo. Overnight, the world is theirs. Not even twenty-five years old, Sam and Sadie are brilliant, successful, and rich, but these qualities won’t protect them from their own creative ambitions or the betrayals of their hearts.

Spanning thirty years, from Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Venice Beach, California, and lands in between and far beyond, Gabrielle Zevin’s Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is a dazzling and intricately imagined novel that examines the multifarious nature of identity, disability, failure, the redemptive possibilities in play, and above all, our need to connect: to be loved and to love. Yes, it is a love story, but it is not one you have read before.

Why I Decided to Read this Book

The premise of this book didn’t really sound interesting to me. However, a few trusted sources had LOVED it and said that you didn’t have to like video games to enjoy this book so I gave it a try!

My Thoughts

When you read the synopsis of this book you think this is a book about video games. Well, it is but it isn’t. Video games are a big part of the characters life but the book is about friendship. This is a character driven book but with a plot (a lot happens) which you know is my kind of book. I finished this book about a month ago and I miss the characters so much.

The story spans a long period of time and you really get to know the characters. You follow their story from childhood to adulthood. There are some amazing secondary characters as well and I just loved them so much! This is a long book but I didn’t want it to end so I appreciated the length. The writing is so beautiful, I will go read some of Gabrielle Zevin’s backlist now.

This section of the synopsis truly captures the essence of the book: it is a dazzling and intricately imagined novel that examines the multifarious nature of identity, disability, failure, the redemptive possibilities in play, and above all, our need to connect: to be loved and to love. Yes, it is a love story, but it is not one you have read before. I definitely recommend this book!
