Review: You are not alone

You are not alone book

February was the month of thrillers for me. I read a total of 3, which is unusual, I read a total of 3 last year. Today I’m sharing my thoughts on a highly anticipated thriller coming out tomorrow (March 3, 2020), You are not alone by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.

Synopsis

Shay Miller wants to find love, but it eludes her. She wants to be fulfilled, but her job is a dead end. She wants to belong, but her life is increasingly lonely.

Until Shay meets the Moore sisters. Cassandra and Jane live a life of glamorous perfection, and always get what they desire. When they invite Shay into their circle, everything seems to get better.

Shay would die for them to like her.
She may have to.

Rating:

3 Stars (I liked it)

My thoughts:

This is my first thriller from the duo Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, their books get so much hype that I was super excited to read this one. In addition, the synopsis is not super descriptive so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Well…I liked the book but it didn’t do much for me. It was an entertaining book, however, I wasn’t super surprised about the twists and it wasn’t very memorable.

I liked the writing, it is a book that is easy/quick to read and you want to know what happens. I am always very impressed with how two people can write a book together, how do they do it? I alternated between the book and the audiobook and I enjoyed the narration of the audiobook.

One of the reasons why I struggled with it was because I didn’t like any of the characters, couldn’t relate to any of them and some things were a bit too unrealistic for me. I think it has to do with my taste in thrillers. It’s ok if it is unrealistic but I need to feel some sort of connection with the characters to like the book. I think a little more background on some of the characters would have helped with feeling more connected to them.

I still want to read more from this duo. Some of their other books include The wife between us and An anonymous girl. If you’ve read any of these let me know in the comments which one I should read first!

If you are looking for a lighter fun thriller this may be for you. This book comes out tomorrow March 3, 2020. Get it from Amazon here. Thank you so much to St. Martin’s Press for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
