What I Read in February 2021!

February 2021 Books

What I read in February 2021. I’ll be honest, I feel like I’m not reading the right books. I still haven’t read any 5 star books this year and its probably because I’m not following my goals for this year/choosing to read what I’m most excited about. I’m hoping to change that in March!

Reading Stats

  • Total Books Read – 4
  • Pages Read – 800
  • Audio book Total hours listened – 25
  • Books by BIPOC authors – 1/4 (25% – I am focusing on this in order to diversify my reading so I’m adding this to my stats for myself)
  • Favorite Book I read this month – A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

My favorite book of the month! Aaron and I listened to this one in audio on our drive back from Raleigh and loved it. We were hooked from the beginning and it made the drive go by so quickly. I had forgotten how much I like YA thrillers, they are so good. This book reminds me of the podcast Serial so if you are into that you’ll like this one. There is a sequel coming out soon and I can’t wait to read it.

You Have a Match by Emma Lord

I was very excited to read this book because of the super cute cover and it was picked as Reese Witherspoon’s YA Winter book club pick. However, it didn’t do much for me. It is a book more for actual young adults so I would’t recommend it for adults. It felt very “YA-ish” to me (is that a thing?). I thought it was a cute story but there wasn’t much character development and I wasn’t into the teens drama.

Betty by Tiffany McDaniel

This was my book club pick for the month and I’d say I probably wouldn’t have read this on my own. I struggled a lot with it and there is A LOT of trigger warnings. The story is extremely sad and it didn’t grab me as much as it did my fellow book club members. I enjoyed the ending but this isn’t a book for everyone. I have so many thoughts that I’ll share in my full review.

Caste by Isabel Wilkerson

I’ll admit I was intimidated by the size of this book! I had read many great reviews of this one and it was Oprah’s book club pick last year. The physical copy is massive so it took me a while to feel “ready” to read it but I’m so glad I finally did. I ended up getting the audiobook even though I had the physical book because I love non-fiction in audio. I really enjoyed the narration and I learned a lot! The book is full of anecdotes and stories that help you understand the concepts and points the author is trying to make about the US cast system.

Overall, I’m glad I was able to read these books this past month even though I didn’t read as much. What was your favorite book you read in February? Let me know in the comments!

Your review makes me want to read Good Girl’s Guide to Murder because I was a huge fan of the Serial podcast! I’m in a bit of a reading slump though as well. Nothing is really keeping me interested. Hopefully I will find something captivating soon though!
