Daisy Jones and the Six
I started the month with a re-read of an older favorite in anticipation to the release of the TV show. Daisy Jones and the Six is outstanding in audiobook format and I enjoy it even more each time I read it. I started watching the tv show but to be honest I wasn’t into it. I’ve seen 4 episodes and I just think the casting of Daisy is just wrong. I will finish it and let you all know my thoughts once I’ve seen all the episodes.

Happy Place by Emily Henry
This is one of my most anticipated books of 2023 (it comes out April 25) and it lived up to the expectations. If you’ve been reading the blog you know I love Emily Henry’s books and I can tell you this one is my favorite of her books. It is a friendship story as much as it is a love story and I really enjoy books centered around friendships. This book is about a couple who broke up month’s ago but pretend to still be together for their annual vacation with their best friends. It features a second chance love and the “just one bed” tropes which are my favorite romance tropes.

Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry
I think this is my year of the celebrity memoir. I am gravitating towards them and its all I want to listen in audio format. I picked up Matthew Perry’s memoir because it was recommended by Annie from The Bookshelf and I’m glad I read it. If you’re looking for a Friends tell all, this is not it. This is a heartfelt story of addiction. Matthew Perry takes us in his journey from childhood to his rise to fame and his struggles with addiction. Overall I really enjoyed listening to this memoir and I recommend the audiobook!

Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson
Isn’t this cover gorgeous?! This is the story of 3 women in the old money Stockton family set in Brooklyn, NY. I love a good family drama and this book delivered! This is the kind of literary fiction that I love. It’s a character driven book but there are things happening but not necessarily a big plot. I really liked how the characters are complex because that’s how we are as humans. While there are a lot of unlikeable characters I appreciated their growth by the end of the book. I was fascinated with the house on Pineapple street and the Brooklyn setting. I liked that we got multiple perspectives from 3 of the women and I just couldn’t get enough of this dysfunctional family. The writing is great and funny at times.

Signal Fires by Dani Shapiro
This was my book club’s book for last month and I finished it! I’ve finished all book club books this year so far and I am very proud of myself. In only 229 pages Dani Shapiro packs a punch. This is a story about family that is beautifully told. This book is another example of a work of literary fiction with a plot. It is sad and heavy, it makes you think about life and the decisions we make. I really enjoyed the writing and can’t wait to read more from this author.
