Books I read in November 2021. This was a month of alternating between physical books and audiobooks. I finally read more non fiction and I loved those books!

Fifty Words for Rain by Asha Lemmie
I loved this book so much! My friend Meredith recommended it because she loved it and I am so glad I finally read it. It is a coming-of-age novel about a young woman’s quest for acceptance in post–World War II Japan. The writing is beautiful and you really get attached to the characters. I can’t recommend this on enough! This was also a GMA Book Club pick and it was another success.

Beautiful Country by Qian Julie Wang
I was in the mood for a Non-Fiction book and this one came highly recommended (it was also a Read with Jenna pick earlier this year). This memoir is wonderful and heartbreaking. The audiobook is narrated by the author and it is amazing. After I finished the book I watched some interviews with the author that made me cry and appreciate the book even more. Highly recommend it!

Five Tuesdays in Winter by Lily King
This was the first short story collection I read this year. For some reason I don’t tend to pick those up but I was intrigued about this one. There were some stories I enjoyed more than others and some that kept me wanting more (usually my problem with short stories). I really enjoyed Lily King’s writing and will definitely be reading more of her books.

Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe
This book will definitely be in my top 10 of the year. It is a long one and very detailed but it was amazing. I didn’t know much about the Sackler family before reading this book so it was very fascinating to me. The audiobook is narrated by the author and I loved his narration, I recommend that format for this one since it is so long and non-fiction.

Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley
This was my book club’s book for this month and i was determined to read it early. I am always scrambling to finish the book the day we’re meeting, hence I started reading this one November 1st but I finished it December 1st. This book was too LONG and I just couldn’t get into it. I enjoyed the premise of the book but I ultimately don’t think I enjoyed it as much because I wasn’t the target audience for this. It is definitely a young adult book and felt very much like that. There were a lot of characters and things happening in this book that didn’t make much sense to me. I enjoyed learning more about the Native American tribes and the plot but I don’t understand the hype this book is getting.

These are all the books I read in November 2021. What was your favorite book you read this month? Let me know in the comments!
What a great reading month! I really want to read Empire of Pain and I’m glad to know you recommend the audiobook. And ugh I really wanted to like Firekeeper’s Daughter but I am struggling to get through it. Why is it so long?! I am learning so much about their tribe and traditions so that has been great, but I just wish the book had been edited down!
