What I Read in October 2021

October 2021 Books

Books I read in October 2021. I didn’t read as many books this month but everything I read I enjoyed! I didn’t seem to be able to get into any audiobooks this month until the end of the month.

Reading Stats

  • Favorite Book I read this month – The Rules of Magic

The Late bloomers club

The Late Bloomer’s Club by Louise Miller

This was the perfect fall book! This book is by the same author as The City Baker’s Guide to Country Living which I adored so I was very excited to read it. It is set in the same town as City Baker’s and gives me all the Gilmore Girl’s vibes. It features an older (in her 40s) main character which I really enjoyed.

Practical Magic

Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman

I was all about fall books this month and I picked up the first in the Practical Magic series. I was a fan of the movie growing up so I had to read the books. I have a hard time with fantasy or magic books but I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I loved immersing myself in the Owen sister’s world and ended up really enjoying Alice Hoffman’s writing.

The Pact

The Pact by Sharon Bolton

This was my book club’s pick for this month. It was a great thriller set in the UK. The book hasn’t been published in the US yet so you can only buy it from Amazon right now. It features lots of interesting characters and I didn’t guess the ending. Definitely recommend it if you enjoy thrillers.

As good as dead

As Good as Dead by Holly Jackson

This was the last book in the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series. I loved the first book, the second one was good, and this one was just bad. The series just went downhill for me. In this book the main character Pip is just not very smart and everything that happened was too far fetched for me. It wasn’t realistic at all. It’s really hard to explain why I didn’t enjoy this book without spoiling it. Overall, about half way through I lost interest but had already listened to half the audiobook so decided to finish it.

Rating – 2.5 Stars. Probably not posting a review.

They both die at the end

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

I had seen this book compared to Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (which I loved) so I picked it up. It is very sad, which you know from reading the synopsis. Overall it felt a little long to me but I was invested in Mateo and Rufu’s journey. It is heartfelt and I thought the ending was well done.

The Rules of Magic

The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman

As you can see from my review I really enjoyed Practical Magic so I picked up The Rules of Magic to wrap up my October reading. I am hoping to read the entire series by the end of the year. I loved this one even more! It has a lot more magic and I loved all the characters and getting to know the Owen’s aunts. This can be read before Practical Magic (I think you can read all of them in any order you want). Definitely recommend it!

I’ve been all about the fall-themed reading too! The Late Bloomers Club has been on my TBR since I loved City Baker’s Guide too — this does sound perfect for fall!
