What I read in September 2020! This month went by fast and I read some amazing books. I’m excited to share these with you all. If you want more details for each book check out the review for each book which are all linked below.

- Books by BIPOC authors – 5/8 (63% – I am focusing on this in order to diversify my reading so I’m adding this to my stats for myself)
- Favorite Book I read this month – I can’t pick just one, I’d have to say Anxious People, Aristotle & Dante and The Mothers.
Anxious People by Fredrik Backman
Another Backman book I loved! This is his newest book and I loved it so much. I went in not knowing much about it and I think it’s great to go in blind. Don’t read too much about it just trust me and read it. What is this book about? It’s about being human and about how we are all doing the best we can.
Format – Physical Book
Rating – 5 Stars. Check out my review here.
When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole
I really enjoyed this book, it is a slow burn but the plot kept me engaged the entire time. I couldn’t wait to find out how it ended. This book has a little bit of everything: good character development, suspense, some creepy atmosphere, a love story, and a twisty ending.
Format – Audiobook
Rating – 4 Stars. Check out my review here.
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of The Universe
I loved this book so much and I think its meant to be read in audiobook format. It is narrated by Lin Manuel Miranda and it is just perfection. This book came out a while ago and I am glad I found it. It is part of my Fall/Winter Reading Guide.
Format – Audiobook
Rating – 5 Stars. Check out my review here.
Majesty by Katharine McGee
Another great royal fiction book! I loved American Royals and this is the sequel which just came out, I was super excited to read it and it did not dissapoint. I always get nervous about sequels for books I love because they tend to not be as good but this one I think its even better than the first book.
Format – Physical Book
Rating – 4 Stars. Check out my review here.
You Had Me at Hola by Alexis Daria
A book that features a telenovela and soap opera couple, count me in! Ok this is a great book but I didn’t love it. I think this is a very typical romance except for that it is centered around a latinx couple. I loved that, however, I don’t love typical romances. I will post my review soon but I will say if you like romances you’ll LOVE this one, I am just very picky with romances.
Format – Audiobook
Rating – 3.5 Stars. Review coming soon!
The Voting Booth by Brandy Colbert
I did not have this book on my TBR for this month but decided to listen to the audiobook on National Voter Registration day (Are you register to vote?). This is a Young Adult book about a girl that is super passionate about voting and what she does on election day to help people vote. The Voting Booth is proof that you can’t sit around waiting for the world to change, but some things are just meant to be.
Format – Audiobook
Rating – 4 Stars. Review coming soon!
The Mothers by Brit Bennett
This was my IRL book club pick for this month and I loved it! I read Brit Bennett’s latest book, The Vanishing Half, earlier this year and fell in love with her writing so I suggested this book to my book club. I think I liked The Mother even more than The Vanishing Half. The story is set in a contemporary Black community in Southern California and it is an emotionally perceptive story about community, love, and ambition.
Format – Physical Book
Rating – 4.5 Stars. Review coming soon!
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
I finally read this syper hyped book! I finished it late last night so I am still processing my thoughts on this one. This is a YA fantasy book which is very much outside of my comfort zone and I liked it. However, I didn’t love it as much as everyone else seems to. This is the first book in the series and I will try to read the other books I’m just not in a rush to do so.
Format – Physical Book
Rating – I’m in between 3.5 and 4 stars, still processing my thoughts on this one. Review coming soon!
Bullet Journal
I thought I’d share how I track my reading in my bullet journal. At the begining of the month I set up these pages and filled them out throughout the month. I color in the books I read from my TBR on the left and on the right is the pages read (percentage for audiobooks) per day.
I hope you enjoyed seeing what I read in September 2020. I’d love to know what your favorite books you read this month are. Let me know in the comments!
What a great reading month! Nice mix of genres.
