What I read in April 2020

April has been one of my best reading months of the year! Last month I was struggling to focus on reading but this month I got my reading groove back. My favorite book I read this month was The Girl with the Louding Voice.

The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Dare

This was my favorite book of the month! This is an emotional and powerful read but also full of hope. It made me think about the things we take for granted and the power of education. The character development is outstanding, Aduni is a character I wont forget anytime soon. This is a story about survival, perseverance, friendship and hope. Check out my review here.

Rating – 5 Stars (Must Read!)

The Grace Kelly Dress by Brenda Janowitz

This book was a delight! It is the feel good book I was looking for. This is a story of three generations of women and the dress that connects them. The wedding dress meant something different for each of these women and I loved how it connected them. Check out my review here.

Rating: 4 Stars (An Excellent book)

The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez

This was a re-read for me. I read it for the first time in December of last year and I loved it so much that I wanted to read it again. I did the audiobook this time and I loved the narration. What I loved the most about this book is that it is funny without being cheesy, the banter between the characters, and the depth of the characters. Check out my review here.

Rating: 5 Stars (Must Read!)

The Lies that bind by Emily Giffin

I love Emily Giffin’s books! She is an Atlanta author and I love supporting local authors. When I received the advance copy of this book I started jumping of excitement. If you like Emily’s earlier books you’ll like this one, it comes out June 2, 2020. I’ll be posting a full review soon!

Rating: 4 Stars (An Excellent book)

Untamed by Glennon Doyle

This was a great non-fiction book (its more of a self help book than a memoir) but I dont think its for everyone. This was Reese Witherspoon’s book club pick for the month and I really enjoy the books she picks! Check out my review here.

Rating: 4 Stars (An Excellent book)

The Guest List by Lucy Foley

I think I found a new favorite thriller! I loved this atmospheric book set at a wedding in a remote island off the coast of Ireland. It has multiple shock moments and an ending that I didn’t see coming. Check out my review here.

Rating: 4 Stars (An Excellent book)

Weird but Normal by Mia Mercado

This was my book club’s pick this month. It is a collection of essays about the contradictions of being a millennial woman, which usually means being kind of a weirdo. Some of the essays were super funny and relatable. While it wasn’t a book that lends itself to a lot of discussion for a book club we enjoyed it. I’ll be posting a full review soon!

Rating: 3.5 Stars (I liked it)
